War Museum January 30

AHHHHHH my break for winter. I decided to head up to Seoul to see what everyone else seems to have seen already. This is the National War Museum of South Korea. I arrived here on January 30 and started taking in the sights. This place is HUGE. What you can see in this picture is not even including the wings of the museum.

The front of the very large museum.

The view out and to the left of the front entrance.

This is a very powerful piece. This is suppose to represent two brothers, one fighting for either side of the country. In the picture below it explains exactly what the structural aspects means in the statue. Oh and in the crack, on the inside it's a mesh mash of stain glass. Very pretty.

This is the furtherest left of this mosaic. This is amazing!!! I wanted to be able to see it in better detail so I broke it up into three pictures. Goes from left to right.

Across from the first mosaic is this one. It's still cool but not as impressive. In the middle of the picture you can see the round platform. That has a map of the world on it. Surrounding it on the ground are tiles made of brass representing each country that came to South Korea's aid during the Korean war.

This is the monument that you see in front of the building. It has amazing statues surrounding it. Shows the many faces of the war, from the soldiers (wounded and determined), the commoners, and the children. This is a spectacular piece. The first time I saw it I walked around in that little area for a good half hour to take it all in.

This gives you a background on the above monument.

Had to prove I was in the museum....... Doing the Korean "victory" sign......all the kids do it in almost every photo.

Planes for my bud Jared. See I remember!!!

This is the infamous turtle ship that beat the Japanese down............on one of their many "conquering" trips to Korea. This is a really weapon actually. It was designed to be placed in the middle of the enemies fleet of ships. On every side of the ship there is cannons (most ships at this time only had them on two sides). On top of the ship it is armored with metal plates with shape points of metal (like a nail through wood) all over the top. This is because the Japanese were very good at hand to hand combat, so if they couldn't get to the Korea's than they couldn't use that skill. On the top part there is a very thin line of unplated area, difficult for one person to walk on let alone to fight on. This was probably one of the most interesting parts of the museum.

Canada Represent!!! Yah we got a wall spot!!!!

Chinese Zodiac sculptures behind Gil.

The many weapons of war lining the walks around the museum. These weapons are from many different countries.......mostly because their were many countries who fought in the Korean war.

Everyone needs a tank shot. Wouldn't be a war Museum without a tank.
